2013-09-21 HV to Flugtag ride

Headwind both directions.Total was just over 52 miles round trip from Highland Village. I saved it as 2 rides, so I won’t get super bonus points for a super-long ride. :/

At the FlugTag, one of the flugerkraft was a decent glider, but the pilot didn’t know to nose down for more airspeed, stalled it, and dropped in. That still had the best flight. Most of the rest just went straight off the ramp and dumped into the lake. Some were really cute, and some were really lame (Oh, that’s tomorrow? I forgot to make something! Quick, hang these sheets on a towel bar over my bike!)

One of them wasn’t even really “assembled”. They had pieces being held on by hand. I guess they were going for negative score (some claimed this). That one seemed to hit the rider, and another took a long time to find all of the big pieces (required before next launch). We stayed for around 18 of the launches, but headed out after that.

One rider never made it (multiple flats) and a couple of riders left early (one saw enough, one went to help the stranded rider). Coordination was poor due to almost zero cell service on-site, and we didn’t meet up with riders who didn’t show up to lunch.

All in all, the best parts of the day were: A) All of the riding up to about noon, which was beautiful weather, cool breeze; B) Brunch at 7 Salsas in Irving, on MacArthur, just north of IH-635; C) Spending time with fellow cyclists; D) That one flugerkraft that actually flew.
